Fair Trade Gifts Under $100
I have very mixed feelings about Christmas, as I am sure that many do. It is full of fun memories and anticipation, but it also makes me feel a bit anxious. It is like the month where I feel that there are 100 more things added to my to do list and a layer of pressure reminding me that I have to be cheery and enjoying EVERYTHING.
One reason that I get a bit anxious is shopping. Don’t get me wrong, I love to shop, but when it comes to a holiday season focused on shopping I become resistant –the lines, the consumerism, the depleting bank account–it makes me grumpy.
If you’re like me and you want to avoid the lines and the consumerism, here is a way to do both! Shop online. Shop with your conscience. Here are a few of my favorite online ethical dealers and a few gifts under $100.
First, let’s take a look at Citizenry. This is one of my FAVorite online shops. From Latin America to Africa to Ireland, this shop is not just giving us the most beautifully crafted home decor you can think of, they are also giving us products with a story and soul.
Need an unique host gift for your Christmas get together? What about these beautiful glasses? They look good hanging out on your open shelving, bar cart, or styled as part of a centerpiece.
You can pair them with the Puebla Hand Towels for a super matchy matchy gift. If these are too pretty for you to even think of using them as hand towels, how about fancy napkins? Or even better, cafe curtains! Buy some curtain clips and turn them into a make shift cafe curtains for that little bathroom or kitchen window.
Speaking of fancy napkins, look at these goodies from another amazing online shop, Local+Lejos. I have two sets of these and they look so nice on our table with each season and all occasions. They are made by the Block Printers of Jaipur in India and each purchase pays for a month of school for one child. How amazing is that?
Do these fancy napkins need a special home? I think they most certainly do! They need a beautiful place to rest in the center of someone’s table. You can pair this napkin set with the Muhanga Nesting Bowl Set.
And we can’t forget about our litte mini humans. There are many reasons why I love this next shop, Malena. One BIG reason is that the founder is an ex lawyer turned designer turned social entrepreneur. I love a good life transformation story and that is just what Malena is all about. They have built excellent partnerships with artisans around the world and provide truly transforming work for artisans. I just love this little Elephant.
These guys are one-of-a-kind items hand created by our artisan partners in Rwanda, so slight variations in fabric patterns will occur, which means you will get a unique and one-of-a-kind item! They are not made of plastic, lead paint or from China. They are made with love for the very special little ones in your life.
So enjoy this Christmas season and I wish you a calm and cozy next weeks!
